Explanatory Breadth – Romanticism explains more work of art than formalism does. formalism is all about being visual or listening to the harmony of music. basically just observing the art, while with romanticism goes deeper into the art and shows the nature of art and should be supplemented with sublime. Explanatory Depth – Romanticism elucidate emotions into art work in greater detail than formalism does. romanticism view is more powerful into what the art is really all about. it shows that there something deeper within the art than just lines on a paper or words being spoken. art is not all about the looks, its also about what you can actually get from the work and the beauty behind it. Simplicity – I would say that formalism would have less assumptions due to the fact that with this theory it more about the formal beauty of the art and just the details that is within the art. its not going into the details of why it was made or the story behind the piece. a person can feel a special sense or emotion from rational art. Conservatism – Romanticism would be more consistent currently. most people will enjoy art just because. it doesn't have to be rational. the field of art has deceased over the years but now art is becoming more admired. people are doing many different things just to express it. 1. Romanticism and Formalism are the most plausible explanations of art.
2. Romanticism has much more explanatory breadth, explanatory depth and conservatism, whereas Theory 2 has a little more simplicity.
3. Therefore, Romanticism is the best explanation of art.
I also agree with the view of romanticism, believe it is more realistic then formalism. My advice to you would be to explain both sides in each of your sections. For example in Explanatory Depth you only spoke about romanticism, you should try and explain both sides in each section. Other than that great job!
ReplyDeleteyou did a great job with your arguments, and I agree with you when you mention about formalism being more simplistic. just thought you could of been a bit more clear on how you differentiate between the two, besides that great blog :)
