Aesthetics

In todays world, one of the biggest things that has been around for centuries is art. It has transformed from paintings, sculptures, photographs and drawings etc. Through out the years art has been a way for people to express themselves or a way for people to share what they have seen or want to create. The two types of aesthetics that people usually interpret are formalism and the other is romanticism. Formalist believe that the interpretation of art should be based upon the form of different types of art work and how well we analyze and abstract it. It needs to structure what our reality is and deals more with the texture, form, color, arrangement of shapes, etc. Formalism deals with our rational experience with a specific type of art. While rationalism has more to do with the how well it express our non-rational emotions. It emphasizes more on how well we are able to interpret a work of art. They believe that rational beauty is not enough for us to really connect but that it needs to be more sublime and be open to different types of interpretations.

After understanding these two different types of aesthetics I would have to argue that romanticism is the more plausible way to interpret art. I think that art in every aspect being "good or bad" should make you feel some type of way. That it shouldn't be strictly based on the texture of the piece of art or how well the artist was able to abstract a form. in my opinion i think that when art can connect to you make you see or interpret a deeper meaning of the piece of work is what makes a great piece of art work. Art is a way for people to express themselves through their emotions or what they are strongly feeling. Weather its conveyed through a painting, a sculpture or photograph; art should not be stricted but open to all different types of expressions and interpretations.

Explanatory Breadth- Romanticism has more explanatory breadth then formalism.Formalism states that it has beauty but only goes on with the rational interpretation and abstract form of the art work. It doesn't  have more interpretation then whats in front of you. While romanticism says that it goes beyond the rational beauty and tunes in to our emotion factor. It hits more then what we see but helps to inspire a reactions through the art work.

Explanatory Depth- Between these two aesthetics I would have to say that Formalism has more explanatory depth then romanticism. Although romanticism goes deeper within an individual and can connect to your emotions formalism is deeper because of the way we would interpret the piece of art. It has more depth because it looks closer at the type of texture, color, form and all the other types of structure that the art work holds.

Simplicity- When it come to simplicity I think that romanticism is easier to understand then formalism. Romanticism is more direct because it connects to your feelings and although it causes you to think its simpler to understand. Formalism would make you think about the abstract manner which would be harder to understand because it wouldn't be as obvious.

Conservatism-I believe in todays society romanticism would be more plausible with our current sense of belief then formalism. More people are now looking at art and asking “what is it telling you” “How does it make you feel” .They try to find a deeper meaning behind the piece of art and find what the artist was trying to explain while making this piece of art. Formalist see that a painting can be abstract but they don't try to see the deeper idea of it.

1. Romanticism and Formalism are the most plausible explanations of the interpretation of art.
2. Romanticism has more explanatory breadth, conservatism, and simplicity, whereas Formalism has more explanatory depth.
3. Therefore, Romanticism is the most plausible explanation of the interpretation of art.
